Message from the CEO

Updated: Oct 2, 2022

I love this time of year—the crisp, clean air, family celebrations, and the overwhelming feeling of renewal as we look forward to starting a new year. The past two years have been challenging, and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing them through the rear-view mirror.

That said, on November 4, NLOWE celebrated eight amazing women as part of our annual 2021 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Gala. It was a beautiful evening at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s. We were also delighted to have many attendees join us virtually. The level of excitement in the air was infectious, and the sheer joy we all felt in congregating once again was electric. It was an evening filled with inspirational stories from successful entrepreneurs, tears of joy, and gratitude. It simply doesn’t get any better.

The year 2022 marks a significant milestone for NLOWE. We are proud to celebrate the organization’s 25th anniversary and the impact our advisory services and programming have had on supporting female business owners.

Next year, we will also reflect on all that we have accomplished together over the last two and a half decades. The number of female entrepreneurs is increasing, but they are still under-represented. Although there is still much work to be done, we are moving the needle for female entrepreneurs. Women are shaping the future of business. We must celebrate our achievements, the future of NLOWE, and female entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The new year brings new celebrations: International Women’s Day, the NLOWE conference, the NLOWE Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Gala, and more in-person networking events. But the extra spark of excitement threading through the NLOWE 2022 calendar will be our milestone anniversary. We are looking forward to celebrating with you everything that we’ve accomplished in the last 25 years.

Reasons to celebrate are plentiful.

With gratitude,

Jennifer Bessell
